General Description The PD-2M-BL is a dual axes driver for DC Brushless or DC brush (selected independently for each axis) utilizing an advanced unipolar PWM method for driving low to medium power motors in a direct voltage/current amplifier scheme. Highlights The PD-2M is designed for plug-and-play operation, meaning that no setup is required to operate the driver as received from the factory, except for a DIP switch to select the motor type. The PD-2M uses direct voltage/current amplifier scheme, meaning an open-loop operation without a current loop. The resulted driver is very small and simple and is ideal for driving Brushless or Brush motors in Point-To-Point applications. The PD-2M logic is implemented using an FPGA which can be easily modified for special user requirements, such as: operation in Bipolar or operation in a Standard Unipolar Mode. The PD-2M is equipped with the Phoenix Combicon connectors for the motors and the power supply, providing reliable and easy to handle connection. Technology The PD-2M uses Advanced Unipolar PWM Mode which minimizes the motor’s current ripple. This method switches the motor voltage between zero and the +Vs (the driver supply voltage), instead of between -Vs to +Vs, as done in the standard bipolar method. In addition, the advanced unipolar method switches the power bridge in a way that the motor command’s frequency is twice the frequency of a standard unipolar method. Altogether, the ripple current and the resulted motor heating are significantly reduced, especially important for low inductance motors. |
